Wired Port Authentication
The NEB Computer Lab in room 288 has 32 100Mb wires ports available for use by ECEL users. The following instructions are attached to the tables near the ports should you need to reference this while not online.
Enable 802.1X Authentication for Windows XP (SP3) or Vista
Be sure you are logged onto your machine as Administrator or equivalent.
Enable the "Wired AutoConfig" Service
- Click the Start Button and in the Run command enter services.msc and hit ENTER.
- In the Services dialog box click the Standard Tab. Right-Click on the "Wired AutoConfig" and choose Start. (Screenshot)
- If you want this to start automatically on a reboot you must specify this in the Properties of this service.
- You may now close this window.
Enable 802.1X Authentication
- Open the Network Connections app from Control Panel and open the properties page for the wired network adapter you will be using. (Screenshot)
- Select the Authentication tab and check the "Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication" checkbox. Set authentication method to "Protected EAP (PEAP)". (Screenshot)
- Click the Settings button and be sure Authentication Method is set to "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2). (Screenshot)
- Click Configure and unchek the "Automatically use my Windows Logon name and password" checkbox. (Screenshot)
- Click OK or Close on all dialog boxes.
Logon to ECEL
- When you see the bubble from the SysTray concerning "Additional information is required to connect to the network" click it to open a Logon Box. (Screenshot)
- Enter you ECEL username and password, leave Logon domain blank. (Screenshot)
- Provided your ECEL account is enabled and your Logon credentials are accurate you will be issued access to the network using a 100Mb connection.
